Nitrogen Narcosis

When you are a beginning diver, you will have many different questions that you will want to have answered. However, one of the most important subjects is nitrogen narcosis… While it may not be something that you will consider when you have begun your diving classes; it is of the utmost importance for you and your whole diving party understand everything there is to know about this affliction that can and will occur if you are not knowledgeable about how to stave off its effects.

Nitrogen narcosis is essentially gas toxicity when using nitrogen tanks. This of course is a state in which you are numb and often times experience a lack of judgment. Nitrogen narcosis can be considered much like the feeling you get when you are drunk. This can impair your judgment, coordination, and overall ability to dive; which as you can figure, is really very important for you to be able to do while you are under the ocean’s waters!

Fortunately, the effects of nitrogen narcosis including vertigo, impaired judgment, and dizziness can all be staved off by staying in shallower depths and ‘decompressing’ by coming to the surface for a good breath or two of air. So, when you want to take on the wonderful sport of scuba diving; you should always, always make sure that you are learning all there is to know about any risk factors! This can be all being taught to you by a local scuba diving class!
